Cookie Dough Fondue
When looking for props for my photos I usually find stuff at stores like Ikea, Kohls, Sur la Table, Homegoods. I only buy stuff on the cheap or when it's on sale - which is probably why I use the same stuff in every photo.
Last week, over on Instagram, Ashton and Jocelyn were talking about finding cool stuff at Goodwill. I'd never thought of going there, although I have stalked garage sales with hawk-like mini-plate eyes.
So over the weekend, in my quest to shop without spending much money and my need to be child-free for a few hours, I went to Goodwill to treasure hunt for some cute props.
Have you been to Goodwill lately? They have interesting stuff. Fine china nestled in alongside plastic, overused Tupperware.
Ice cream makers and bread machines galore, buried next to the VCR graveyard. {Hey, ever wonder where all the VCRs went to die? Goodwill.}
Also? Half used bottles of moisturizer. Yes, my Goodwill store was selling already used bottles of lotion and shampoo.
{Now, I know I am lucky to be able to shop for things and buy what I need, new, unused, and sometimes at regular price. But half used bottles of soap? That really doesn't seem sanitary.}
Anyway, I found a few cute dishes and linens. And I found a really cute teensy fondue pot. Nothing special, a cute white one with a tealight and a $2.99 price tag. Sold!
The ideas started flowing. I mean, I can't just make chocolate fondue, can I? This is me we're talking about.
I started a list of yummy fondues. Yes, a list.
My first one: cookie dough.
I have cookie dough on the brain lately, possibly because of this.
I think about it all day long.
Why not make it a nice, warm, gooey dip?
I took this recipe, my favorite chocolate chip cookies, and adapted it for an egg-free bowl of goodness.
You can dip whatever you want. Marshmallows. Teddy Grahams. Graham Crackers. Pretzels. Mini cookies, perhaps?
It's sweet and delicious and all things good.
It was getting late in the day when I finished the recipe and wanted to photograph it...so I took it outside. Got some pretty good shots.
Then I started thinking of all the amazing, superfabulous fondues I was going to make next.
And I pulled a Rachael Ray and picked up everything to bring in the house. My props, camera, the fondue pot filled with gooey, sticky deliciousness.
And then there was this.
I think I cried more for the dip than for the pot, although I am sad that my cute little white fondue pot is no more. I mean, I braved Goodwill for it.
But, the silver lining is that my half pint jars fit in the holder.
And...not all the dip fit in the cup. So I still had some left to eat with a spoon after dinner.
No fondue forks needed, folks. Just a spoon and a love of cookie dough. And maybe of Goodwill, too.
Enjoy! And I hope you all have a wonderful, fun, and safe Fourth of July!!
Cookie Dough Fondue
by
(Adapted from this recipe.)
Ingredients
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- ¾ cup flour
- 4 tablespoons heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons non-fat milk
- Handful of mini chocolate chips, for garnish
- Items for dipping: marshmallows, fruit, graham crackers, cookies,…
Instructions
- Heat butter over low heat in a medium saucepan. Add sugars and stir until dissolved. Stir in vanilla and flour and cook for one minute. Remove from heat and whisk in cream and milk, adding more if needed to get the consistency you desire. Place in fondue pot and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Dip until you’re sick with cookie dough fever.
- (This makes about 1 ½ or two cups of cookie dough. I was going to measure…but then I dropped it. Oops.)

I am so glad you braved goodwill...there are so many treasures to find there!!! The dip looks awesome...must make that very soon!!! And I am so sad that your cute little bowl bit the dust! At least it was only $3...
This is incredible.
I love Goodwill! However, I think I love the Cookie Fondue even more--I can just imagine my grands having a ball with this. Whoa, flashback to the 60s and the fondue parties we used to have...rad dessert Dorothy:-D
Okay, WHICH Goodwill did you go to? I don't know of any in our area other than grody Citrus Scary Heights. I've been wanting to go since Jocelyn has convinced me it's a treasure trove of goodies like fondue pots (RIP) and other knick-knacks. My mom once found mini donut pans there and DIDN'T BUY THEM. Let's just say we didn't talk for awhile. But anyway, this dip looks AMAZEBALLS. If you told me you had some on the ground I probably would have eaten it if Ginger didn't get to it first. And I love the line "pulled a Rachael Ray", lol. Whenever I watch her show with my dad, he gets so mad and starts yelling at the TV "TAKE TWO TRIPS!!!" Hahahaha.
Thanks Erin!
No, don't go to that one! There's one over by The Pancake House. Only a few years old. And you know what? Ginger did try to eat it. I had to WRESTLE GLASS OUT OF HER MOUTH. Which, if you know Ginger, made her growl and say not nice things to me. :)
Oh I love the little pot! Very cool!
Oh my word! It looks amazing! I have to admit I squeeled when I saw the pot filled with goodness broken! I always look for white dishes at good will or value village. Love it!!!
Oh dear. This looks delightful. I bet it would taste good as an ice cream topping too! I never buy an assortment of dishes/linens anywhere because I feel like I'll end up pack ratting stuff and I feel like we're always packing and moving. Do you ever go to Fred Meyer? They have some cute dishes.
I also love looking for dishes to take pictures and never thought of looking at Goodwill. I may have to check that out. Your cookie dough fondue looks delicious! I absolutely love anything to do with cookie dough (which I have in my freezer as we speak) and this would be fun to make and eat!
Oh, poor little pot. At least it met its demise filled with yumminess.

Wow! This recipe has me salivating...it looks so delicious! I can just see myself dunking a pile of oreos and brownie bites into this!
Yum. I haven't been to our thrift stores in awhile, I need to head out and check them out. There are two of them pretty close to my house!!! Great recipe :)
At least it wasn't your camera that was dropped!
And is it fondue if you just dip a spoon into it, not any other goodies, cause I don't think it would make it that far in my house!
Now you have my brain stuck on fondue too. I love your cookie dough version! (Especially with the Teddy Grahams!)
Thanks! I love teddy grahams dipped in anything. :)
And that is why I always wear my camera strap! :) I used a spoon for the leftover. I knew I was gonna eat it all...why bother with the extra calories, lol.
Thank you! I hope that Goodwill becomes a great source of stuff. So far, so good. :)
Oh no, your poor little pot! At least it was just $3, but still...what a bummer. The dip looks amazing, though! YUM!
heavenly! I bet this would get eaten up in a few minutes - tops!
This looks so yummy! Pinned! I love the little pot too. I'd love it if you would share this at my link party. http://adventuresofadiymom.blogspot.com/2012/07/terrific-tuesdays-22.html
Rachel
I do that too where I try to carry way too much stuff at once, but somehow when Rachel Ray does it on her show it drives me nuts! Make two trips Rachel, we know you are doing it for show!
Goodwill rocks. I get the most amazing stuff there for my upcycled quilts. My theory on why Goodwill gets the good stuff is that it's the first charity to come to mind when people are desperate to get rid of stuff. You can drive up and someone comes to help you unload! It's like how people say Kleenex when they need a tissue - they say Goodwill when they need a charity to donate to. Long live Goodwill Industries. I live near a grody one, but I still love it.
goodwill hunting
whoow!!! this is so cool! you can't go wrong with cookie dough but cookie dough fondue ?! it can't get any better, I think ;)
Yummm. I'm so sad about your little pot!
I know what you mean about Goodwill... it's the smell that gets me. (gulp) I do go in there to salvage plates and things for crafts but I won't go near the clothes section. I always wonder if somebody might have died in them.
(Not that I have anything against dead people... I just prefer not to wear their clothes.)
I know what you mean...it kinda became her schtick. Thanks so much for visiting Jessica!
Thank you! :)
Oh, I'm with you. I almost feel the need to shower after I leave. :)
Love seeing how you styled this.
I found this via the Real Housewives of Riverton Recipe Round up. I linked in a post about spicy mince lettuce cups. Have a great week.
That looks delicious! I'm sorry your little pot was sacrificed in the name of good blog photography!
sorry about the pot - it was adorable. but that dip is crazy {in a good way of course}
Well, I'm all shades of crazy around here, so that's a good thing! Thanks Heather!
Cannot wait to try this! I actually have a fondue pot from when I got married in 1980. Still working! So are we! Yeah for things that last....
Thanks Carole!
That's great, nowadays things break so fast. I hope you love it!
Cookie dough fondue? Really?! You deserve an award, a medal ... or at least another sweet Goodwill find ;) Thanks for sharing this at {what's shakin' link party}!!
Thanks Keri!
You know I'm going to make this. And eat the whole pot with a spoon. By myself.
LOL, that's exactly what I did. :)
Dorothy,
This looks delish! I'm so sorry your new fondue pot got all broken but at least you had dip left over to console yourself with. Thanks for sharing at Creative Thursday :)
I'm so sad for that cute lil' pot! Such a short life...*sob* But yes, Goodwill = The Bomb. I love that place. We also have Salvation Army & D.A.V thrift stores here, which have great finds on occasion. Essentially all of my food props come from a thrift store.
I need to find more stores!! They are like mini gold mines. For bloggers. :)
