Patriotic Nutella Cookie Dough Dipped Pretzels
Do you ever have those
Yeah, last weekend I had a few of those days.
Most of it centered around this treat. Or, more accurately, what this treat should be.
I knew I wanted to do another patriotic post. I've known for weeks. I would say I had baker's block, but that wouldn't be true.
I had way, way, way too many ideas.
Pie. Cookies. Something with leftover blue buttercream. Pie again. Bananas? No. Strawberries! No. Maybe cookie pie. Marshmallows.
AHHHHHH!
So many times I wanted to take out the dual personality that is my baker self and give her a large slap.
"Make up your mind, baker self!" I would have yelled at her. "Make a choice!"
So I finally did. {Make a choice I mean. Not yell and slap myself. I'm not quite ready for the loony bin yet. Close, but not until Jordan' a teenager. Then I'll revisit that issue.}
I decided to make something with star-shaped marshmallows. Went to three stores to find a bag.
And yes, you would be right when you're saying to yourself "...but there aren't any marshmallows listed in her title..."
Because there's not. Not a marsh or a mallow in sight.
One aisle after the marshmallow aisle is the pretzel aisle, where I let Jordan choose what pretzels she wanted.
She chose the square ones. Which triggered my memories of stuffed pretzels everywhere.
And I changed my mind again.
And boy, am I glad I did.
Have you heard of Lindsay Landis' book, The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook?
Oh my goodness, it should be called Dorothy Loves Cookie Dough And She And Lindsay Could Be BFFs.
Anyway, I've been drooling over her recipes and photos for weeks now. But, of course, I cannot follow a recipe...so I adapted one of hers. I made Nutella Cookie Dough.
I sandwiched it between two pretzels.
And I dipped it in chocolate.
And I made them red, white, and blue for the Fourth of July. Go ahead. Make them. I dare you to eat just one.
Yeah, good luck with that.
I think all that indecision worked in this case. What do you think?
Patriotic Nutella Cookie Dough Dipped Pretzels
by
(Cookie Dough adapted from The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook by Lindsay Landis)
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons Nutella
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 64 square shaped pretzels
- 1 package candy melts (any color or flavor), or a combination of red, white, and blue melts
Instructions
- Using a hand mixer, beat butter, Nutella, and both sugars until blended. Add milk and vanilla. Mix in flour and salt until just combined.
- Lay out 64 pretzel squares. Sandwich them with about a half of a tablespoon of cookie dough per pretzel pair. Chill until ready to dip.
- Melt candy melts according to package directions. Dip each square in chocolate, tapping off the excess and placing on a wax-paper lined cookie sheet. Chill to set. Decorate with drizzle, if desired.

Yum!!!!!! Oh, how I love anything with Nutella.
And with a pretzel?? That's perfect :)
I had a thought just last night to make cookie dough stuffed pretzels! Not nutella cookie dough, but still! They look dreamy, Dorothy. And you're right, it's totally better than peanut butter ;)
Oh my, those look fabulous!
Ooooh Nutella cookie dough. Yep, I love you. It's official.
Would it be wrong if I just omitted the pretzel? :) So yummy!
These look soooo pretty! And, yes, Nutella is pretty much ambrosia in a jar. You can quote me on that :-)
Indecision has never looked so creamy dreamy DELICIOUS. Nutella cookie dough? No wonder we're BFFs! And good for you for being patriotic in the desserts department. I've been so half-assed about it lately and July 4th is next week and I'm like, super way behind. Ugh. I need like, eighty jillion of these to feel better about myself, obviously.
Thanks! :)
Um, not at all. That's what happened to half the cookie dough. :)
Totally. :)
um, yum!!!
OMG YUM! Nutella is my weakness. Like we're talking hide the spoon and all evidence that i devoured the entire jar before the hubs comes home. And did you know that Costco sells 2 huge jars of it for like $9? Maybe I shouldn't have told you that?
ps-- please let me know when you're in the bay area! I've only made 2 friends so far so I will gladly accept any stalker, I mean, friend to meet up with haha! I will let you know if I venture out NorthEast!
ummmm these are UNREAL!!!! pretzels + chocolate is like..... my version of sweet and salty heaven. Adding nutella cookie dough to the mix just like... sends me to the moon! i love lindsy's book, i made her cokie dough fudge and cant wait to share it!
Festive, tiny, cute, salty + sweetness heaven. Love this!
Those look amazingly delicious! I love Nutella ... there is a link party dedicated to Nutella recipes today at OneArtsyMama so I've been seeing nutella yummies everywhere ... it's making me hungry :)
look lovely!
Oh, why don't we live closer! I love Lindsey Landis' book and know I'll go through a lot of recipes when my grands come in July. Cookie dough that is good to eat raw and you've gone and done this with pretzels and chocolate--genius, pure genius!!
Dorothy? You're a genius. But you know that, right? Ohmygoshtheselooksogood!
It probably goes without saying that "When in doubt, go for sweet AND salty". Such an easy solution. YUM!
I'm editing your book title to Dorothy AND Mikayla Love Cookie Dough And we Could Be BFFs. It's definitely up for writing. I'm so down.
But really, I love the stuffed pretzel trend. Indecisive people for life!
Those look amazing!!!
I am having major indecision right now about a recipe to make! But those do look amazing!
I am so glad you were so indecisive for so long...because look what it brought to us!!! I heart you so much!!! Nutella cookie dough in pretzels wrapped in chocolate...nothing could be better than that right now!!!
Yum. Holy cow, YUM!! These will be made ... oh yes, they will be made!
Yes yes yes! Nutella cookie dough? Count me in!
you crack me up, I hate going to the store with a plan only to not be able to find what I need. But I must say, you turned out with a winner, yummy!
You had me at "nutella cookie dough"! It could have been a picture of it on the floor and I would make up a reason to eat that... Haha these look much safer though... And germ free :) Such a fun, delicious recipe!
I've seen those jars, and it was all I could do not to buy them! And for sure, let's get together! I'm there as much as possible. :)
Yes, me too. Heaven. Thanks Sally!
Wow, I'll have to check that out! Thanks so much for visiting Nicole!
LOL, why thanks. :)
YES. That would be too awesome. :)
Oh, I hope you enjoy! Thanks Keri!
I know, huh? Thanks so much Nicola!

Yum! I love the sound of these! Nutella cookie dough sounds incredible!
wow- yum! now this might be over the top, but what about biscoff/nutella cookie dough dipped pretzels... just saying =p
Oh Dorothy - these are sooooooooooooooo delicious looking
I LOVE your decorations
I definitely have a recurring problem of trouble making up my mind..lol Sounds like you came up with the perfect recipe, though. This look great and very patriotic and must taste delicious:)
I just found your blog last week and I love it! I'm entertained by your writing style and your creations...ridiculous.
Thanks Winnie! Have a great night!
Thank you! That's so sweet of you to say; I'm glad I'm accomplishing my goal. :)
Oh yes! I wanted to do biscoff but I was out, lol!
Those sound insanely good! Nutella Cookie dough??!! Too much temptation!
I definitely think indecision worked in this cake! And I love reading about how inspiration strikes :) These look wonderful!
You had me at nutella. I just bought a huge container of nutella, expecting to bake with it, but I ended up eating it right out of the tub in a couple of days... I'll try to restrain myself next time I bake
YES!! Dororthy, these are brilliant. I completely credit your indecisiveness and Jordan's outstanding pretzel-picking. You two make a good team!
I totally feel like that, most days- So many ideas I need to get down on paper so I don't forget. Usually I end up baking millions of treats in 1 week and then scrambling to give them away so I don't need to buy new pants.
Oh I know what you mean!! I do the same thing with Biscoff. :)
Welcome to my life right now! I have a half a pie, a bunch of these, and more in my fridge. Hello, gym.
Wow, I've never seen anything like these before (I'm British, maybe it's a craze that hasn't reached us yet). Definitely sounds like something I'd love though, and pretty food is always a winner with me. :-)
Yummy and so cute!!
Oh these look beyond delish!
Ohmysoul! This looks divine...mouth melting...awesome! I don't know how you contain all those wild creative thoughts of yours....and I'm so glad you share them too. These are just beautiful.

How amazing do these sound? And they are decorated so beautifully! We are going to love these, for sure.
Thanks Bibi!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy! :)
These look fabulous, and I'm very likely going to make them tonight! I have one question...do you have any tips on dipping them in the chocolate? I always have issues with that part of anything chocolate-dipped...thanks in advance!! :)
I hope you enjoy them! Oh, chocolate...*exasperated sigh* I find that melts are easier to work with than chocolate chips, and anything is easier than white! When I melt in the microwave, I do it on 50% power in 30 second increments, stirring in between. If the melted candy seems too thick, I'll add a teaspoon or so (per half bag) of vegetable oil to thin it out. (You can also use shortening.) The oil also helps the candy melt if you find it's not melting like it's supposed to. Good luck, and thanks for your comment! :)
How do you dip the pretzels? I'm thinking of using tongs... but I want to know for sure before i start dipping them.
Yum, nutella cookie dough sounds so good, and stuffed in a pretzel, wow! These look great!
I always use a spoon and a fork. A spoon do cover it, and then I pick it up so it is sitting on top the fork and tap to remove the excess. I also use the spoon to scoop away the drips on the bottom of the fork. Good luck!
Wow! These look amazing! Can you believe I still haven't tried Nutella! But it's definitely on my to-do list, along with this recipe now! As always thanks for linking up with me! Hope you had a great 4th of July!

Thanks Kaylee!
That was the tip I needed, about the actual dipping technique...I asked it wrong. Great tip!! I didn't make these for the 4th, but plan on making them for a get-together with girlfriends tomorrow...with wine. Perfect. :)
