Cereal Milkshakes and Real Milk

This post is sponsored by got milk? in partnership with local California organizations that educate kids about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

Milk is a staple in my house. Jordan drinks it daily. I like it in my coffee. We all eat cereal every morning.

It's such an important part of our daily routine that I plan for it when we go on a trip, so that Jordan can have her Cheerios if I can't get to the store right when we get home. I've even been known to stock my hotel room mini fridge with single serve milk bottles.

You could say we're a milk family.

When the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program contacted me about creating a recipe with real milk, of course I jumped at the chance.

The California Milk Processor Board (CMPB) has started a four-week sale of limited edition milk glasses (from July 9th through August 5th), to benefit community-based organizations here in California. Three organizations, THINK Together, the Bay Area Community Resources, and the Central Valley Afterschool Foundation, are all benefitting from the sale of these glasses. The organizations support after school and summer programs for children and their parents to help them make wholesome food choices for a healthier lifestyle. The after school programs also work with children during out-of-school time on fostering positive relationships and helping with academic achievement.

The glasses are being sold as part of the GOT MILK?'s latest campaign, 'Science of Imitation Milk', which basically talks about real milk vs. imitation milk. For example, real milk has two ingredients: milk and vitamin D3. "Imitation milk" has a long list of ingredients, many unpronounceable. During the four-week sale, these super cute glasses can be purchased online for $15 and 100% of the purchase is going directly to the community organizations to support nutrition education for children all over California.

Aren't the glasses super cute?

When trying to come up with a recipe, milkshakes naturally came to mind. I mean, what's more milk than that?

Then, of course, my ADD kicked in and I could not make up my mind about what milkshake to make.

Until I was at the store and remembered a quirky childhood food habit I had.

{Why yes, I had quirky childhood food habits. Some things never change.}

I used to put cereal on my ice cream. Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It was my favorite cereal topping.

The Cinnamon Toast Crunch called out to me in the Walmart cereal aisle, as it usually does. This time I listened, and I'm so glad I did!

This is probably the easiest milkshake ever. Ice cream, milk, and cereal.

If you don't like Cinnamon Toast Crunch (and I'm not sure we can still be friends if not), then you can use your favorite one. I am dying to try Cocoa Puffs.

So go get some cereal and milk, and get some glasses. Then make a milkshake to remind you of your childhood! Your kids will love it too, if you decide to share it with them.

{Not likely.}

I use vanilla almond milk a lot for the flavor and low-calorie count, but there is nothing like a tall glass of real milk with cookies. I can't understand people who don't love milk!
(We're skim/1% people. I had a friend tell me that only whole milk has nutrients and other kinds don't. Yeah, okay.)

We raise cattle (but not dairy cattle) so of course we drink nothing but REAL milk! My kids love milk and literally drink a gallon a day. Love your milkshakes, I will be trying them!

The sprinkles on top totally make the milkshake :-) I'm thinking Golden Grahams with a squirt of Hershey's syrup!

Mmmmm, yes, cinnamon toast crunch is easily (besides cap'n crunch and fruity pebbles) the best cereal evah. And in a milkshake, it's called "heaven." Figured you knew that after drinking this one :) even though my tummy detests milk and wages world war 3 on me after I drink it or milk-heavy things (milkshakes and ice cream, I love you and miss you), I still love milk. After workouts, I hear one of the greatest things to do is drink chocolate milk. Any reason to drink chocolate milk is a great reason, though!

Only you can turn a milkshake into a breakfast treat! I bought some special "Angry Bird" glasses for the grands to have smoothies when they're here--this is a wonderful idea to blend some cereal in it. The new Dulce de Leche Cheerios would be good too with some homemade caramel sauce swirled into it. XOXO

Yes! Adorable glasses! And I love this milkshake recipe. Cereal milk is by far the BEST milk out there of course! Did you know they make a cinnamon toast crunch milk alcohol? It's new... RumChata. Just sayin'. ;)

Visiting from Tasty Tuesday.
This is a fun idea! And a great way to use that last little bit of cereal that isn't enough for a bowlful.
